Blend of Islamic & High Tech Architecture in Putrajaya

17 June, 2008 (11:31) | VE South East Asia | By: a.i. editor

In the below picture is how you would see the Putrajaya Township while driving in a car. New high tech buildings on both sides of the wide road & cobra curved street lights everywhere. The onion shaped domes usually belong to the government buildings. Malaysia is an Islamic country hence the architecture is designed to resemble many elements found in Islamic architecture like the onion shaped domes & large spanning arches. You may find it like I do, to view the prevalent contrast between the blend of high tech architecture & Islamic architecture in Putrajaya.

One thing is for sure, the Islamic architectural elements have succeeded in making the government buildings look grand & monumental. The high tech architecture in Putrajaya has also succeeded in providing a futuristic outlook for Putrajaya. Combined, both Islamic architecture & high tech architecture in Putrajaya represents Malaysia’s desire & goal for a unique, developed nation by 2020. Do visit Putrajaya while on holiday in Malaysia or Kuala Lumpur. There are many beautiful places to see, splendid for taking photographs!

Big Beijing Haze Problem

31 October, 2007 (21:15) | VE East Asia | By: a.i. editor

Big Beijing Haze Problem

I read some where that the grey fog I saw while in Beijing recently is actually dirty air or smog/haze caused by pollution. PhhbbTtt! :P It’s a big problem for Beijing. While I was in holiday in Beijing for 8 days last September 2007 with my lady, I only saw the sun in the sky for 2 of the days. Now it is worst.

Recently some important flights like the giant airbus “Super Jumbo” promotion were cancelled at the Beijing International airport because the smog was very bad. I hope Beijing can resolve the issue as having a grey sunless sky 80% of the week is not going to look good at the Beijing 2008 Olympics. Furthermore, the smog/haze could be hazardous to the health.

Digital Camera as Important Travel Equipment

23 September, 2007 (08:44) | VE liFesTyle | By: a.i. editor

Digital Camera as Important Travel EquipmentApart from the normal baggage, hand luggage, socket adaptors & etc; the digital camera is important for travelers. You never know when a flight delay may happen & you stay at the airport for half a day or more like what happened to my girl recently at the Beijing airport. Moving on, a digital camera can help you breeze through the waiting hours to take even hundreds of pictures of people, activities & etc happening in the airport.

Outside of the airport, you can have your digital camera ready to take pictures as fast as your eyes can see something that interests you. On a holiday, there are many things that may interest you as many things are new & different from your home country. You may settle for a fast operating point & shoot camera. Should you also be a budding semi professional photographer, then it is better for you to invest some money in a fast DSLR (digital single-lens reflex) camera & some quality lenses.

Who knows, your photos may even be good enough to sell as high definition stock photos & eventually pay for your holidays too & more. I reckon it is a good idea to learn how to use a fast DSLR & invest in one simply for the opportunity to travel for free!
