Lousy Beijing First Impression: Greeted with Thick Haze

3 October, 2008 (07:17) | VEW East Asia | By: a.i. editor

Yes, it is no surprise for Beijing, China to have a huge haze problem enveloping the gracious city. Like in the picture above, you can hardly see any further past the Beijing International airport building. My first arrival to Beijing soil, China back in September 2007 was greeted with a sight of thick haze, overshadowing the Beijing international airport.

I felt like I was on another part of the world, well, actually I was in another part of the world already by being in Beijing. What I mean is that my first sight of Beijing was not at all what I had expected. In my mind was beautiful greenery & majestic, colorful oriental palaces. Instead, Beijing is smoking! The airport looks decent on its own but the smog/haze will literally disappoint any good first impressions for visitors to the infamous city of Beijing.

Behold the Dawn over Beijing

28 September, 2008 (17:45) | VEW East Asia, VEW South East Asia | By: a.i. editor

Dawn has arrived on board the KL - Beijing night flight back in September 2007. You can see as in the above picture that the sun is just about to rise from the east. The sight is beautiful & I must apologize for the artistic rendition of the original photo for the purist folks. Nonetheless, I think that the above photo brings out the essence of the dawn on the day.

You can’t really see any more details than in the above picture using a better camera so it would not matter what kind of subjective artistic rendition you make of the photo. You can see the blueness of the sky unfolding before your very eyes & the warmth of the sun’s rays burning the color of the clouds. You may want to book a flight into Beijing where you arrive just about dawn. It’s a pretty sight to behold; the dawn over Beijing.
