There looks to be quite a lot of notebooks using the Intel 960GL chipset so I reckon that a chip upgrade from a Celeron to a Core Duo chip (MYR555 for a 1.6 GHz Intel Core DUO T2330 533MHZ 1MB processor) is possible. Officially (as shown on the Intel website), the chipset only supports Celeron processors.
Nonetheless the obvious upgrade probability remains as the similar socket form. There is somebody who claims to be successfully using a Core 2 Duo T5450 (around MYR 853) 667MHz FSB on the GL960 on the notebook review forums.
With a 3GB ram some more. The max stated is 2GB but he could have possibly upgraded it to 4GB as there are two ram slots for 2GB each. Perhaps you have a 4315 Acer Aspire Celeron notebook.
Below is a list of notebooks by various brands that use the same Intel 960GL chipset like the 4315 Acer Aspire Celeron notebook. Hence you can see that many notebooks use a Core Duo chip on the same chipset as the Celeron notebook.
1) Toshiba Satellite L200-N401D Laptop PC
• Intel Pentium Dual Core Processor T2310, 1.46 GHz
• Intel 960GL Express Chipset Mainboard
2) Forsa FS-2211
• Core Duo T2310 1.46Ghz
• Intel 960GL Chipset
3) Forsa FS-2212
• Core Duo T2330 1.6Ghz
• Intel 960GL Chipset
4) Forsa FS-2213
• Core 2 Duo T5250 1.5Ghz
• Intel 960GL Chipset
5) Compaq Presario C738TU
• Intel Pentium Dual Core Processor T2330 (1.6 GHz)
• Intel 960GL Express Chipset

The above list goes on to about 9 more notebooks. It is possible to have fun upgrading the chip & rams so that your notebook’s multi tasking, voltage, & heat generation will be more efficient. However, for heavy duty computer games it is better to buy a games dedicated notebook with spectacular graphic card/s & not the integrated ones.
can the 4315 be upgraded to a dual core 1.6
Seems like it since the 1.6 GHz Intel Core DUO T2330 & the better Core 2 Duo T5450 can fit into the Intel 960GL chipset socket.
There are success stories & no failures.
Core 2 Duo T9500 is the top cpu that 960GL can support. Tested. I’m not sure that 4gb ram are possible. Bios always detect 4gb but system (64bits of course) reboot the computer because of an memory error. I don’t know if it could be a bios problem, but i cannot get it work.
hi, arquitekno
Thanks for stopping by & commenting on my blog. It’s good news that you have tested the Core 2 Duo T9500 on the 960GL. It’s a good upgrade. Anyway, for any notebook that has the 960GL & Vista, perhaps 3GB will more than suffice. Do stop by my blog again!
I am amazed with it. It is a good thing for my research. Thanks
Hallo, Enlargement.
